Moritz Müller - 2023-05-25 08:58:19
Hi and welcome everyone to the DNS WG meeting
Moritz Müller - 2023-05-25 08:58:33
we'll get started in a few minutes
Brett Carr - 2023-05-25 08:59:06
Morning Everyone
João Luis Silva Damas - 2023-05-25 09:07:28
1.2.3.4? are you sure?
Markus Zeilinger - 2023-05-25 09:11:26
Is there a main project website for DNS4EU?
Markus Zeilinger - 2023-05-25 09:12:39
whois 1.2.3.4
inetnum: 1.2.3.0 - 1.2.3.255
netname: Debogon-prefix
descr: APNIC Debogon Project
descr: APNIC Pty Ltd
Moritz Müller - 2023-05-25 09:16:22
If you have any questions, please use the Q&A function
Moritz Müller - 2023-05-25 09:21:10
@Markus: https://www.whalebone.io/dns4eu
Markus Zeilinger - 2023-05-25 09:24:17
Thx
Andronikos Kyriakou - 2023-05-25 09:36:41
Indeed 1.2.3.4 will not be the official IP address for DNS4EU. It was an example use case. We are working on finalizing the IP assignment
Stefan Ubbink - 2023-05-25 09:37:42
it would be good to use documentation IP's in slides :grinning:
Shane Kerr - 2023-05-25 09:49:00
Clearly DNS4EU needs to use a custom EDNS0 option to identify itself. :-D
Brett Carr - 2023-05-25 09:50:14
Could be an ISP updating/replacing a large volume of CPE devices
Victoria Risk - 2023-05-25 09:50:50
it would be great if DNS4EU is using extended errors to identify when answers are blocked administratively.
Shane Kerr - 2023-05-25 09:51:04
Someone updated an Ansible playbook. :-P
Shane Kerr - 2023-05-25 09:51:28
Good point Victoria!
Victoria Risk - 2023-05-25 09:52:13
I could see a benefit from DNS4EU if it was just more transparent about filtering than the ISPs are, so imho the only benefit is not competing with Google.
Victoria Risk - 2023-05-25 09:53:06
wrote that backwards - what I meant was, Geoff implied the only driver for DNS4 EU was keeping the data in the EU, but it could also be better if it provides better transparency
Andronikos Kyriakou - 2023-05-25 09:57:07
That's definitely a valid point and certainly one of the main triggers of the project
Shane Kerr - 2023-05-25 09:59:41
Lovely to see ASCII art hasn't died.
Victoria Risk - 2023-05-25 10:03:12
I feel like this talk needs to go to some conference where app developers congregate - I don't know what that is though. WWDC??
Robert Scheck - 2023-05-25 10:13:42
Bump in the wire caused fire?
Andreas Wittkemper - 2023-05-25 10:14:00
live fire alarm
Jelte Jansen - 2023-05-25 10:14:11
DNSSEC *is* really hard!
Brett Carr - 2023-05-25 10:14:17
I'm on my way out :)
Robert Scheck - 2023-05-25 10:14:19
Do remote participants also have to leave?
Robert Scheck - 2023-05-25 10:14:25
:)
Alvaro Vives - 2023-05-25 10:14:31
:-)
Brett Carr - 2023-05-25 10:14:48
This is DNSSEC really breaking things
Robert Scheck - 2023-05-25 10:15:02
Indeed. It's always the DNS.
Andreas Wittkemper - 2023-05-25 10:15:10
The funny thing, in my company there is a test fire alarm planned roughly the same time. for a moment I was confused
Carsten Schiefner - 2023-05-25 10:15:13
I just wondered about this, too!
Sebastian Wiesinger - 2023-05-25 10:15:18
So we're the last ones in the building, they could've left the room cameras on
Andreas Wittkemper - 2023-05-25 10:15:44
maybe we shouldn't see the panic :-D
Carsten Schiefner - 2023-05-25 10:16:10
Seems to be over...
Carsten Schiefner - 2023-05-25 10:16:43
Or connectivity has been cut.
João Luis Silva Damas - 2023-05-25 10:17:57
people are now coming back
Carsten Schiefner - 2023-05-25 10:18:07
There is a lot of stories what unattended cameras catch during such meetings...
Leandra Eberle - 2023-05-25 10:18:12
test alert ok :)
Carsten Schiefner - 2023-05-25 10:21:03
I guess it was a LACNIC meeting where during the lunch break the hotel personnel could be observed of pouring back all the half drunken glasses of water into the carafes.
Carsten Schiefner - 2023-05-25 10:21:34
That created a bit of a fall out later on...
Robert Scheck - 2023-05-25 10:21:53
But isn't that common (even usually behind closed doors)?
Sebastian Wiesinger - 2023-05-25 10:22:24
I bloody well hope not
Sebastian Wiesinger - 2023-05-25 10:23:18
That would be so many hygiene and health violations
Robert Scheck - 2023-05-25 10:24:05
Wo-ho! Dutch-only alarm and "no need to evacuate" after the evacuation?
Andreas Wittkemper - 2023-05-25 10:24:10
Well, half full bottles of wine poured together, ok. But glasses ....
Sebastian Wiesinger - 2023-05-25 10:24:51
the alarm was in Dutch and English
Robert Scheck - 2023-05-25 10:25:28
Really? Are you on-site? I didn't recognize it remotely.
Victoria Risk - 2023-05-25 10:25:30
Apparently we are waiting for someone to return with the microphone before continuing in the room
Victoria Risk - 2023-05-25 10:26:09
I dk why - there seems to be one on the podium
Brett Carr - 2023-05-25 10:27:53
it was def in two languages and amazingly I still understood then both
Carsten Schiefner - 2023-05-25 10:28:43
@Andreas: Not a recommendation either if it's e.g. a red and a white. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Robert Scheck - 2023-05-25 10:29:16
After enough bottles of wine, nobody cares about the colour anymore ;-)
Carsten Schiefner - 2023-05-25 10:30:35
Or even worse wrt. last night's BoF: blending Singles!
Carsten Schiefner - 2023-05-25 10:31:06
@Robert: True as well...
Brett Carr - 2023-05-25 10:34:57
Oracle Linux 9 seems an odd choice
Robert Scheck - 2023-05-25 10:39:44
Yes, thought the same and raised a question.
Moritz Müller - 2023-05-25 10:41:49
we're cutting the queue after the one question online
Victoria Risk - 2023-05-25 10:42:41
Incredible that this isn't a more widespread issue.
Jelte Jansen - 2023-05-25 10:46:34
dutch pun, there ;)
Carsten Schiefner - 2023-05-25 10:47:28
@Jelte: The DApper? ;-)
Jelte Jansen - 2023-05-25 10:48:30
yes, dapper winning the most courageous project award (rather than the most-stylishly-dressed award)
Moritz Müller - 2023-05-25 10:49:11
unfortunately no time for questions (for real this time)
Moritz Müller - 2023-05-25 10:51:16
Thanks for joining the meeting online
